Schiller Park: City's Second Oldest Park

Schiller Park is a municipal park, which has covered 23.45 acres or 9.49 hectares. It is located in German Village, which is a memorable place in Columbus, Ohio, United States. East Junction Street, East Side Street, East Side Street, East Deshler Avenue to the south. 

In the 19th century, the land where Schiller Park was founded by Frances Stewart and was famous with the name "Stewart's Grove." Click here for more. The area was reserved for various activities such as the celebration of festivals and neighborhood since the eighteenth century, it also includes the celebration of Independence Day in the 1830 year and Ohio State Fair celebration of both the years 1864 and 1865. 

In 1866, William G. Deshler, son of David W. Deshler and Allen Thurman G. bought this property with the motive to serve public purposes permanently. Shortly later, the City of Columbus acquired the park in the month of April in 1867 for $ 15,000 from the Thurman and Deshlers. After purchasing the park, its name changed to "The City Park" and it also ranked as the 2nd oldest city after Goodale Park.
